  • The Finite Element Method has the rare distinction of being an active area of research developments research in Engineering, Physics and Mathematics. For the Mechanical Engineer is a very versatile tool that can be used in the resolution of problems in Solid Mechanics, Fluid Mechanics, Thermodynamics and Electromagnetism. Moreover, it can be used in problems involving several of these effects combined (Multi-physics).

Being such a powerful tool, it must be applied with caution and a clear understanding of the strenghts and limitations of a particular method. This course will give the students the knowledge to be able to understand those as well as the tools to explore further and evaluate specific applications of the method.
